Advocates Want Cannabis Descheduled Not Rescheduled

Last week’s leaked letter from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recommending that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reclassify cannabis from a Schedule I to a Schedule III controlled substance under federal law was lacking for advocates who want to see it descheduled. All of the OG cannabis reformers are weighing in. Congressman Earl Blumenauer has been involved in cannabis reform for 50 years. He founded the Congressional Cannabis Caucus in 2017. “This is a step in the right direction, but it is not sufficient. I hope it is followed by more significant reforms,” Blumenauer said. “This is long overdue.”Blumenauer noted he pushed the Biden Administration to deschedule marijuana last December. Later in the spring, he called for more transparency in the wider Controlled Substances Act scheduling process. Pickup Versus ATV Collision Near Elm Lane Kills 22-Year-Old Antioch ManOAKLEY, CA (September 7, 2023) – Tuesday morning, an ATV crash on Neroly Road in Oakley left a man from Antioch with fatal injuries.The deadly collision happened shortly before 7:00 a.m. at the 5200 block of Neroly Road, near Elm Lane.Based on the initial investigation, a four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle lost control while going southbound on Neroly.Subsequently, the ATV’s wheels entered a locked-wheel skid and veered into the northbound lanes. The ATV then hit the front-side corner of a pickup truck, ejecting the rider into a vineyard.Unfortunately, the first responders declared the ATV rider dead at the scene. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Starting on September 11, Bay Area Rapid Transit will have a new service plan streamlining with riders' post-pandemic commute patterns. BART's goal is to make public transit more attractive and efficient after ridership numbers plummeted in recent years.One of the biggest changes includes more service on nights and weekends without 30-minute wait times. "No BART rider will wait more than 20 minutes for a scheduled train, no matter what hour of the day, or day of the week," BART officials wrote.Service on the busiest weekday line, the Yellow Line, is increasing so that trains arrive every 10 minutes from Pittsburg/Bay Point.Only the newest trains, dubbed "Fleet of the Future," will run for the base schedule. (BCN) -- The Bay Area Air Quality Management District announced Thursday a new web tool where people can search for all notices of violation that the district has issued in the past five years. The tool can be found here for people who may be interested in finding out which facilities in their communities were accused of violating air quality laws.
