Recipe: Honey Roasted Peach Biscuits

Looking to pair your baking with summer stone fruit season? Erika Council, the owner and chef behind Bomb Biscuit Company in Atlanta, Georgia, offers some heady inspiration in her new cookbook, which was released last month, “Still We Rise: A Love Letter to the Southern Biscuit with Over 70 Sweet and Savory Recipes.”This recipe for Honey Roasted Peach Biscuits, she says, is inspired by her Aunt Rene, a larger-than-life relative whose shiny brooches, pet Chihuahua and Sunday gossip left a lasting impression. One of her aunt’s most delightful desserts was a hybrid confection that blended the textures and flavors of shortcake, biscuit and cake, filled with fruit and topped with whipped cream.“Here, I’ve invoked the spirit of my Aunt Rene’s fruit-filled shortcake with a basic cream biscuit folded over roasted peaches flavored with honey and a little bit of cardamom,” Council writes. “This is one of the simplest ways to make biscuits from scratch; you ...Recipe: Roasted Delicata squash with harissa yogurt and pistachios

There’s a tendency to measure Brock Purdy against those who came before him on the most quarterback-centric franchise in the NFL.I’ve been around long enough to see Joe Montana and Steve Young in practice and in games, quarterbacks who by the time I was around played for 49ers teams with elite rosters and coaches en route to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But the quarterback Purdy most reminds me of isn’t going to the Hall of Fame, although he did win a Most Valuable Player award and helped take a moribund franchise out of the shadows and into the limelight. He did it with a hard-nosed attitude, a ton of completions, minimal turnovers and the ability to be a creative point guard capable of enhancing the skills of those around him.Rich Gannon was sold on Brock Purdy immediately. He was watching when Purdy came off the bench after Jimmy Garoppolo broke his foot and delivered a 33-17 win over the Miami Dolphins.“Honestly, I was just blown away,” Gannon said...My AP ballot: Georgia is No. 1 (naturally) followed by FSU and Michigan

(CNN) — A pilot has died after the plane he was flying as part of a gender reveal party in Mexico crashed on Sunday.Video posted online shows the plane releasing pink smoke as it flies over a couple waiting in front of a sign that reads “Oh baby,” surrounded by pink and blue balloons. The recording captures the moment the plane’s left wing appears to separate from the fuselage as it flies away.Alan Francisco Rangel of the Sinaloa Red Cross told CNN that paramedics treated the pilot at the crash site in San Pedro, Navolato and then took him to a local hospital, where he died.Authorities did not release the pilot’s name, and the cause of the crash is not clear. No further injuries were reported as a result of the accident.Gender reveal parties — which initially used cakes to inform party guests of an unborn child’s sex — have become increasingly elaborate and sometimes dangerous.A 2020 wildfire that killed a Southern California firefighter and destroyed five homes was ...San Jose: Motorcyclist dies from injuries suffered in August crash

Disengaged employees are becoming a larger problem. According to a recent Gallup poll, employees working from home are feeling more disconnected from their employers, the lowest it has been since before the pandemic. But it doesn’t have to be that way.Sharon Hill, an associate professor of management at the George Washington University School of Business, has been researching virtual work for the past two decades to find both the positive and negative implications of it.Communication between managers and remote workers is key to engagement, and lack of communication is a primary cause of disengagement.“We know that research shows that we tend to communicate less frequently in a virtual environment,” Hill said. “So, if managers feel that they are over-communicating, they probably have it about right.”One of her recent papers focused on behaviors that make an effective leader in a virtual work environment. One of them is to know the technology, without hav...Owner of collapsed Iowa building that killed 3 people files lawsuit blaming engineering company

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — The owner of an Iowa apartment building that collapsed in May, killing three people, has filed a lawsuit that blames an engineering company for not warning the building was structurally unsound and that residents should be evacuated.Real estate owner Andrew Wold filed the lawsuit last week against Select Structural Engineering, more than three months after the May 28 partial collapse of the building in Davenport, the Quad-City Times reported Sunday. Three men died when one side of the six-story building partially collapsed and crews had to amputate a woman’s leg to rescue her from the rubble. The lawsuit argued Select Structural Engineering didn’t identify the risk of collapse, the danger of such a collapse and repairs that would have avoided a collapse.“At no time did Select Structural opine that the defects in the west wall would require an evacuation of the building,” the lawsuit said. “To the contrary, Select Structural expressly stated that the...Stock market today: Wall Street wavers following two weeks of gains
