Source: Vikings planning to sign linebacker Anthony Barr to practice squad Anthony Barr is coming back to Minnesota.A source confirmed to the Pioneer Press that the Vikings are planning to sign Barr to the practice squad in the wake of linebacker Jordan Hicks needing to have emergency surgery on his lower leg. It’s unclear how much time the 31-year-old Barr will need to get in playing shape considering he hasn’t played in the NFL this season.Originally selected by the Vikings with the No. 9 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Barr played nearly a decade in Minnesota, emerging as a face of the franchise under former head coach Mike Zimmer. He played last season with the Dallas Cowboys after the Vikings opted not to bring him back.Related ArticlesMinnesota Vikings | For the first time ever, Vikings safety Cam Bynum played an NFL game in front of his wife Minnesota Vikings | Vikings tight end T.J. Vikings linebacker Jordan Hicks hospitalized after suffering shin contusion

Vikings linebacker Jordan Hicks hospitalized after suffering shin contusion Vikings linebacker Jordan Hicks was rushed to a local hospital immediately following Sunday’s 27-19 victory over the New Orleans Saints. After suffering a shin contusion early in the game, and briefly returning to action, Hicks ended up needing to have emergency surgery to reduce the swelling in his lower leg. He remained in the hospital on Monday afternoon, according to head coach Kevin O’Connell, who planned to go visit him.“It is something more than likely that will cause him to miss at least this week,” Hicks said. “We will make sure Jordan continues to get that great care, and hope to have him back in the facility as soon as possible.”Asked for more clarification about the situation, O’Connell noted that Hicks developed compartment syndrome, a condition caused by pressure buildup from internal bleeding or swelling of tissues. It can be very dangerous if not treated with the proper care. That’s why the Vikings acted as quickly as th...

Dane Mizutani: It’s time to give Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah the respect he has earned

Dane Mizutani: It’s time to give Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah the respect he has earned Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah nervously paced around his spot in the press box during a game a couple of weeks ago. He had just acquired journeyman quarterback Josh Dobbs from the Arizona Cardinals at the NFL trade deadline, not at all expecting him to be thrust into action less than a week later.Yet, there he was filling in under center with the Vikings trying to pull off an improbable comeback win on the road. As the game wound to a close, Dobbs got the ball back with 2 minutes, 8 seconds left, needing to go the length of the field to take the lead. That’s exactly what he did, miraculously scrambling for 22 yards to keep the drive alive, then throwing a touchdown pass that put the Vikings on top for good in a 31-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons. In that moment, Adofo-Mensah couldn’t contain his excitement, dapping up a few members of the front office before the final seconds ticked off the game clock. That scene could end up defining this season for the Viki...

It’s (more) official: Saura Jost wins in St. Paul’s Ward 1 city council seat after lengthy ranked-choice count Nearly a week after St. Paul voters went to the polls, a hand tally of second-choice votes determined Saura Jost to be the winner Monday in the four-way race for the Ward 3 seat on the St. Paul City Council. The ward spans Highland Park, Mac-Groveland and part of West Seventh Street.Jost, a civil engineer who drew 6,390 votes on election night, saw her count rise to 6,617 votes as rival candidates — including write-in votes, Troy Barksdale and then Patty Hartmann — were eliminated from the tally, freeing up the second-choice picks on their ballots to be reallocated to Jost and fellow candidate Isaac Russell, the second-place vote-getter.There were 13,396 ballots cast in total. With more than 48% of the vote on election night, Jost’s victory was never really in doubt. Russell, Hartmann and ultimately Jost herself had expressed interest in seeing the final vote tally, a process that roped in some 15 paid Ramsey County Elections workers for a six-hour count that began ...

Denver to pay $100K to a church for access to city’s new mountain park

Denver to pay $100K to a church for access to city’s new mountain park The City of Denver has agreed to pay $100,000 to a church camp in exchange for public access to that camp’s private road in the foothills, which leads to a proposed Denver park. The agreement ends an eminent domain dispute that rankled residents of Coal Creek Canyon, 40 miles northwest of downtown Denver in far northern Jefferson and Gilpin counties. In 2021, the Axton family donated its 448-acre ranch to Denver for use as the city’s 23rd mountain park and its first new mountain park since 1939. The area includes expansive meadows, ponds and a trail built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. What the city did not acquire then is access to the only road leading to that property.Beth Eden Baptist Church in Wheat Ridge owns Camp Eden and Camp Eden Road, which runs through the camp for a quarter mile, ending at the entrance to Axton Ranch. The Axtons have been able to use the road due to a handshake agreement they have with the church. When it came time for Denver to buy public access to th...

(Cliff Grassmick/Staff Photographer)It was a banner Monday for fans of the Colorado men’s basketball team. For the first time since late in the 2020-21 season, the Buffaloes cracked the Associated Press top 25, squeaking into the first poll of the regular season at No. 25.More importantly in the big picture for CU, Cody Williams is back in the mix.Williams practiced on Monday, and afterward head coach Tad Boyle said the standout freshman will be back in the rotation when the Buffs put their early 2-0 mark to the test in a Tuesday night home date against Milwaukee. Williams missed Friday’s victory against Grambling State due to a minor injury, and his services might very much be needed against a Milwaukee team that won 22 games last year and returns four starters.“They play 11 or 12 guys, they have some good transfers and some guys they recruited and developed,” CU...
