Heat-related illness, deaths loom as temps spike, sending up nearly 500 Colorado residents a year to emergency rooms As hot weather baked Colorado this week and forecasters anticipated hotter days to come, state health authorities warned of heat-related illnesses that increasingly send residents to hospitals.“Heat waves are becoming more common,” Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment officials warn in their latest public guidance on risks of heat exhaustion and stroke. “Heat-related illnesses can damage the brain and other vital organs.”State health authorities recommend that, when temperatures exceed 90 degrees for several days, residents “stay in an air-conditioned area” — difficult for workers whose jobs require outdoor activity and thousands of people living on the streets. Taco John's relinquishes 'Taco Tuesday' trademark The battle for Taco Tuesday has come to an anticlimactic end.Wyoming-based "West-Mex" restaurant chain Taco John's is giving up its trademark to the phrase Taco Tuesday after a legal challenge from the nation's largest Mexican fast food chain. The fast food chain, which has owned the trademark for more than 40 years, announced Tuesday it would be letting go of the popular catchphrase and allowing its competitors to use it freely. In exchange, the restaurant chain challenged Taco Bell and LeBron James — two entities who have previously challenged the company's trademark, to make charitable donations, instead of using that same money in a prolonged legal battle.Taco John's said it will donate $100 per restaurant location to the non-profit organization Children of Restaurant Employees. Pac-12 media rights negotiations: No deal expected this week as football takes center stage in Las Vegas The Pac-12 won’t announce a long-awaited media rights deal before or during its preseason football media showcase Friday in Las Vegas, according to conference sources. Instead, the event will focus on the teams, players and coaches underpinning the conference’s most anticipated football season in years.Of course, the best-laid plans can be laid to waste by the forces of realignment.
