Roughly 2,000 Denver families may soon receive one-time cash payments under a $3 million program being considered by the City Council primarily to help immigrant families impacted by the pandemic.A council committee gave initial approval to the program last week, setting it up for a full vote before the body later this month. The program would provide payments of between $1,000 and $1,500 to low-income families impacted by COVID-19 with at least one juvenile child at home and who meet other qualifications, like housing insecurity or living in certain areas of the city. The $3 million program will be paid for through federal COVID-19 recovery dollars and would be open through June 30, 2024.While areas primarily in western and northern Denver are specifically named in the proposal, anyone in the city who can’t receive certain government assistance — as many immigrant families can’t — and otherwise qualifies would also be eligible, city officials told the council...Rockies Mailbag: Orioles and D-backs turned it around. Denver Post sports writer Patrick Saunders with the latest installment of his Rockies Mailbag.Pose a Rockies — or MLB — related question for the Rockies Mailbag. What’s especially frustrating for Rockies fans is that at least five teams in the majors were as bad or worse than Colorado just two years ago, but are now enjoying success. Most notable are playoff contenders Baltimore and Arizona, both with miserable 52-110 records in 2021. Two years from now in 2025, what’s there to believe that the Rockies can turn things around and become a winner?— Dom, LongmontDom, I was curious to see which teams were worse than the Rockies in 2021. The Rockies finished 74-87 and there were actually nine teams worse: Orioles (52-110), D-backs (52-110), Rangers (60-102), Pirates (61-101), Nationals (65-97), Marlins (67-95), Cubs (71-91), Twins (73-90) and Royals (74-88).As you can see, the Rangers (now leading the AL West) have also made a dramatic turnaround. Flights that used to be charter now have become regular, he added.“After France and Finland, Luxembourg is the third country with which we sign the fifth level of openness within the open skies policy,” he said. The minister noted that this agreement opens up new opportunities for Kazakhstan’s aviation industry, positioning the country as a key transit hub between Europe and Southeast Asia.New transit flights provide additional opportunities for Kazakh aviators’ professional growth and entrepreneurs, Karabayev said.
