(NEXSTAR) – The tax filing deadline in 2024 is still months away, but some taxpayers have to act by Jan. 16 to avoid a possible penalty, the IRS warned last week.The reminder is for taxpayers who didn't pay enough tax in 2023. By filing a payment on or before the January date they can avoid an added fee, which might come in the form of a tax bill.For most people, taxes are withheld from paychecks during the year automatically, but people who are self-employed or independent contractors are responsible for sending their own tax payments each quarter to the IRS during the year.Jan. 16 marks the close of the fourth quarter when it comes to tax payments. That's near the intersection of Woodland Avenue and Burton Drive, with the address listed as the Solaris Apartments.Austin-Travis County EMS said on social media medics with two ATCEMS ambulances were evaluating two patients at the scene, with at least one patient complaining of smoke inhalation. Officials said the crash involved two vehicles, with medics administering CPR to an adult patient and evaluating others.That patient who received CPR regained their pulse, and medics took them to the St. David's South Austin Medical Center. The Gophers football program has found its bridge backup quarterback.Fresno State QB Logan Fife said Sunday he will transfer to Minnesota. The Tracy, Calif., native completed 143 of his 224 passes (64%) for 1,585 yards with six touchdowns and nine interceptions across three seasons for the Bulldogs.Listed at 6-feet and 205 pounds, Fife will be penciled in as a backup to new starter Max Brosmer, who joined the U from New Hampshire on Dec. 3.As a backup last season, Fife completed 52 of 91 passes for three touchdowns and two interceptions. In his career, Fife has rushed for 88 yards and four touchdowns. A 21-year-old inmate in Riverside County died of a "recently diagnosed illness" on Friday, officials said.At about 7:30 p.m., investigators learned that Shaundale Booker, a Moreno Valley resident, died at a local hospital, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.Booker had been hospitalized with an illness, and during the course of his treatment, his condition worsened.
