Suspect convicted by jury after failing to appear in court AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An arrest warrant has been issued for Derek Carella after a jury convicted him on charges of Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. Carella was charged with a complaint filed by Dollar General on Guy Park Avenue. Carella allegedly stole multiple items from the store. Officers from the Amsterdam Police Department were able to secure video footage and statements. In a separate incident, Carella was apprehended at a traffic stop and was found to possess drug paraphernalia.Carella has a prior criminal history including a Burglary conviction and 11 prior misdemeanor convictions. He faces up to two consecutive years in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

Suspect in fatal animal cruelty case pleads not guilty ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- On Thursday, Philip Domingo, 39, of Rotterdam, pleaded not guilty to three charges in a fatal animal cruelty case. Domingo faces charges of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and two counts of Overdriving, Torturing, and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance. According to the indictment, Domingo allegedly killed a dog with no justifiable purpose on or around November 6, 2022. The incident took place at an address on Lowell Street. Domingo is accused of depriving that dog and another of necessary food and water.Domingo was released to the supervision of probation. He is not allowed to own, live with, or be in the care of any animals. Domingo is scheduled to reappear in court on May 25.

The issue is no different for officers who serve the City of St. Louis.According to new numbers compiled by FOX 2's Mitch McCoy, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is currently around 20% understaffed. At full strength, the department would employ 1,224 commissioned officers. SLMPD is currently down 254 officers, staffing less than 1,000 officers as of Thursday.
