WALNUT CREEK — A ninth grade girl who survived being stabbed by another freshman had been lured to the area by her attacker, who allegedly donned a mask popularized by a horror film, told her he had a “surprise” for her, then waited in a shed, knife in hand, for her arrival. When the girl arrived to a shed used for recycling on the Northgate High School campus, the 14-year-old boy allegedly jumped out, swung the knife at her without warning and stabbed her in the throat, face and arm, authorities said. The attack was only stopped when a campus supervisor heard screams and rushed to the girl’s assistance, causing the boy to drop the knife and the mask and attempted to flee. The supervisor chased the boy through the Walnut Creek campus and tackled and held him until police arrived, according to authorities. Now the boy, who this newspaper is not naming, has been charged in Contra Costa juvenile court with attempted murder and aggravated mayhem, police announced Mo...EXCLUSIVE: Legendary Los Gatos roadhouse restaurant The Cats is reopening — with new owner, new chefs

A new chapter in the storied history of The Cats — the circa 1896 roadhouse above Los Gatos — will begin Friday when the restaurant reopens under new ownership.Barbecue, a staple at The Cats, will be back. And the live music will return next week to this building that’s been a stage stop, a speakeasy, a bordello, a realty shop, a sporting goods store and, since 1967, a restaurant and tavern. What’s different is the mission behind the menu. The Cats’ new owner is ChefCentury, a culinary venture launched during the pandemic by South Bay entrepreneur Richard Tam, who wanted to provide a lifeline to struggling chefs by supplying them with a fully equipped commissary kitchen. They cooked meals for delivery, made Ukrainian specialties for fundraisers and every month selected a different charity to support. The only thing missing was customer engagement, and chefs thrive on that, Tam said. He seized the opportunity to buy The Cats brand when the iconic restauran...Chastain: U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach reminiscent of ’99 World Cup

PEBBLE BEACH – A nostalgic sensation overcame Brandi Chastain as she came here Tuesday to help promote the U.S. Women’s Open, two months before it descends on these hallowed grounds for the first time.Chastain envisions a landmark event similar to the 1999 Women’s World Cup, which brought overdue recognition to women’s soccer and culminated with Chastain and the U.S. team winning it all at the Rose Bowl.“That’s what I’m really feeling about this,” Chastain said after a media day press conference. “This is a chance for these women to walk into this venue and to know that they belong.”Among those eager to play Pebble Beach is famed golfer Michelle Wie West, who will be coming out of retirement to play in the July 6-9 event.Wie West, 33, said she was too young to truly understand the gravity of what Chastain and that U.S. women’s soccer team’s run did for women’s sports. But she now comprehends it.“It’s so iconic, what that soccer team did for girls and our confidence and what we...In 2023, Trump debuts a new lie about the 2020 election

By Daniel Dale | CNNAdd another election lie to the long, long list.Former President Donald Trump has tried for nearly two and a half years to convince Americans that he was the rightful winner of the 2020 presidential election he lost fair and square to Joe Biden. He is still trying today, in 2023, as he seeks the Republican presidential nomination once more. But Trump’s latest supposed piece of evidence, like his previous supposed pieces of evidence, is complete bunk.In a speech to a Republican gathering in Florida on Friday, during which he repeated his usual lie that the 2020 election was “rigged and stolen,” Trump pointedly noted that Biden got more votes than Trump in fewer than a fifth of US counties in 2020. Trump then said, “Nothing like this has ever happened before. Usually it’s very equal, or — but the winner always had the most counties.”Facts First: Trump’s claim that the winner of every presidential election before 2020 a...10 Real Money Online Casinos (Updated List): Ranked by Online Casino Games for Real Money, Fairness & More

NEW YORK (AP) — In vintage couture and a world of Chanel-inspired camellias. In pearls, chains and black ties, especially those worn by women, the A-list crowd at the Met Gala largely passed muster in embracing Karl Lagerfeld, the man of the evening on fashion’s biggest night. Most. Not all. Over-the-top dressing on the first Monday in May isn’t dead. Misinterpreting or outright ignoring the night’s dress code isn’t buried. But this time around, there was an air of respect, a nod to authenticity “in honor of Karl,” as the fundraising party’s visionary, Anna Wintour, requested.“Because the theme was so specific, it practically demanded elegance, which is why so many looked so good. But what was most surprising was to see how other designers paid homage to the master with riffs on his iconic trademarks,” said Hal Rubenstein, a fashion writer, designer and one of the founding editors of InStyle magazine.Lagerfeld, the man, the photographer, the publisher, the de...Latest news
