Even if you don’t give a bebop about jazz, it’s hard to deny that San Jose Jazz’s Summer Fest provides the backdrop for downtown’s coolest weekend of the season. The crowds flowing in and around Plaza de Cesar Chavez this weekend will generate an ambiance of joy we don’t see often enough these days.By the way, if you don’t like jazz, Summer Fest probably still has you covered. LIVERMORE — Alameda County prosecutors have charged a 19-year-old Livermore man with a felony, as part of a back-and-forth tagging battle between rival gangs, court records show.The suspect was charged with a single count of felony vandalism for allegedly spray painting a Leahy Square apartment building in June. The teen was known to police as a suspected member of a Northern California-based gang, authorities said.According to police, rival gangs that operate around Leahy Square had been tagging over each other on the same apartment building. Video surveillance showed the teen spray painting over a rival gang tag while several others kept watch.Police say the teen stared straight into a surveillance camera, making it easy to identify him. Livermore police know him from prior contacts in unrelated gang investigations, authorities said.The teen was arrested on July 20, but has since been released from jail. BRENTWOOD — Police with the California Department of Cannabis Control raided a “heavily fortified” home in a quiet suburb here, seizing nearly 2,000 cannabis plants and a gun, authorities said.The Aug. 2 raid yielded 1,888 pot plants, $22,300 in cash and a loaded pistol that was found directly behind the residence, on a sidewalk authorities said is frequented by children. (KRON) -- A tanker truck rolled over Thursday afternoon on Highway 101, the San Francisco Fire Department tweeted. One occupant of the truck suffered minor injuries and is being treated.The incident happened around 1:10 p.m. in the area of Alemany Boulevard and the southbound on-ramp. The tanker was carrying gallons of cooking oil, but there are no immediate health hazards at this time, officials said. PHOENIX (AP) — An Arizona man was cited for animal neglect after his dog died from heat-related issues while on a hike in north Phoenix, according to authorities.Phoenix police didn’t immediately release the name of the 29-year-old man, but said he was “issued a citation in lieu of detention” for neglect of animals.They said the hiker called 911 around 11 a.m. Wednesday to say he and his two dogs were experiencing heat-related issues on the Piestewa Peak mountain trail.Phoenix Fire Department crews located the hiker some 300 yards from the trailhead and said one of the man’s dogs was dead at the scene.Firefighters were able to cool down the other dog, who also was in heat distress but survived the hike in triple-digit weather.In 2016, the city of Phoenix enacted a ban on taking dogs on city hiking trails when temperatures are above 100 degrees (37.8 degrees Celsius).
