Prosecutors won’t seek death penalty against men charged in Whitey Bulger’s prison killing BOSTON (AP) — Federal prosecutors will not pursue the death penalty against two men charged with the prison killing of notorious Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger, according to court papers filed Wednesday. Prosecutors said in a court filing that in the event Fotios “Freddy” Geas, a former Mafia hitman, and Paul J. DeCologero, a Massachusetts gangster, are convicted of murder in Bulger’s killing, they will not seek a death sentence. Geas also faced a possible death sentence if found guilty of an additional charge of murder by a federal prisoner serving a life sentence. But prosecutors said they would not seek it in the event he is convicted of that charge either. Geas and DeCologero were charged last August in the 2018 slaying of Bulger, who who ran the largely Irish mob in Boston in the 1970s and ’80s and served as an FBI informant who ratted on his gang’s main rival. Woman kidnaps 4 girls at knifepoint from Manteno park: police MANTENO, Ill. — A woman is charged with allegedly abducting four girls at knifepoint from a park in Manteno and holding them captive for nearly three hours.Police said Anita Diaz, 47, faces charges of Aggravated Unlawful Restraint.Officers were called to the park around 5 p.m. Monday for reports of a possible abduction and release of four juvenile girls. The victims told police that around 2 p.m., Diaz approached them at the park and displayed a knife, threatened them and forced them to get in her car.Diaz then allegedly took the girls to multiple locations in the Bourbonnais and Manteno area, including to her home. 3 dead, 14 injured in Illinois crash involving Greyhound bus and commercial vehicles Diaz released the victims shortly before 5 p.m. at a park in Manteno. New poll shows more New Yorkers worried about being crime victims ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A new poll from Siena College Research Institute (SCRI) shows that a majority of New Yorkers are concerned that they may be a victim of a crime. According to the latest report, 61% of New Yorkers are either very or somewhat concerned about being a victim. The report also says that 51% of residents have been concerned for themselves or their family's safety when out in public.
