Kraken-Avalanche Game 6 Quick Hits: If Cale Makar had to sit game, Jordan Eberle’s cheap shot warrants same punishment

Initial observations from the Avalanche’s 4-1 win over the Seattle Kraken in Game 6 of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series …1. Avs are skating Sunday in Denver. Jordan Eberle shouldn’t.Sunk? Not these Avs. We’ll see you Sunday at Ball Arena … but Jordan Eberle shouldn’t. At all. The Seattle winger laid out Avs veteran Andrew Cogliano at the 17:44 mark of the second period with the hosts trailing 3-1 — a blow that looked familiar to Colorado fans. And it looked familiar because the slamming of a helpless Cogliano, who was taken back to the locker room, looked eerily similar to the shove Cale Makar directed at the Kraken’s Jared McCann back in Game 4. For that last one, Makar, one of the league’s cleaner players, got slapped with a one-game suspension, missing a nip-and-tuck Game 5 that the Avs eventually lost at home by a goal. The NHL’s Department of Player Safety wanted to send a message about justice — and fair play — to Makar. If they let Eberle skate i...Fentanyl deaths skyrocketing in Southern California, legislators want stricter laws

SAN FRANCISCO — The playoffs are supposed to bring out a different beast in a true contender. Yet the Warriors have looked every bit their regular-season selves during this first-round series against the Sacramento.A starting lineup adjustment, tighter screws on the turnovers and fight on the boards helped the Warriors take a 3-2 series lead and looking primed to close out in the comfort of their own home. Instead, the Warriors fell back into their worst habits. They were complacent, sloppy and perhaps a bit entitled as they watched the Kings beat them at their own game on their home floor, 118-99, sending the series to a Game 7 at Golden 1 Center. For the Warriors, this series has mimicked their regular season woes: Smart enough to beat anyone, bogged down by failure to execute, drawn to the .500 win line. But a win-or-go-home game is familiar territory to the core players in the Warriors’ locker room. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Kevon Looney savor the ...A's fans protest at Coliseum in first game since Vegas announcement

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Anthony Davis had 16 points and 14 rebounds while blocking five shots in a spectacular defensive performance, D’Angelo Russell scored a career playoff-high 31 points and the Los Angeles Lakers completed their first-round upset of the Memphis Grizzlies with a 125-85 victory in Game 6 on Friday night.LeBron James scored 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting for the seventh-seeded Lakers, who emphatically clinched a playoff series in their own arena for the first time since 2012.The Lakers won all three of their home games in the series, and the final victory was a scary demonstration of their capabilities when James and Davis are both healthy. Davis’ imposing defensive presence largely shut down Memphis’ offense in Game 6, while Russell’s five 3-pointers highlighted an impressive offensive effort from a late-blooming team with championship aspirations.“We didn’t want to go back to Memphis, to say the least,” said Austin Reaves, who had 11 points, eight ass...Capital Classic returns to DC for the first time since pandemic
