Bay Area News Group player of the year: Los Gatos’ Jaylen ThomasJaylen Thomas grew up in a competitive household, with two sisters and a mother who played Division I softball, and a dad who starred in football.“It’s all about the heart,” Thomas said. “it’s always been a competition about who is the best.”As a senior at Los Gatos, there was little doubt who the best was when the Central Coast Section Division I champions needed a big play. Thomas caught 64 passes for 1,180 yards and 14 touchdowns, rushed for two scores, returned a kickoff for another touchdown, had five interceptions, punted, was among the team leaders in tackles, and even threw two touchdowns. “It’s just part of me to be the guy who everyone looks to to make the big play,” Thomas said.For this, Thomas was selected over several deserving candidates for Bay Area News Group player of the year. (KRON) – The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office found an inert military ordnance on the beach in Pajaro Dunes on New Year’s Eve. DENVER (KDVR) -- Denver had one of the driest Decembers on record for snowfall, and the rest of the snowy months so far haven't been much better.Denver's off to a slow start for snowfall, but this lackluster winter weather doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be a dry season, according to Pinpoint Weather meteorologist Travis Michels.Winter snow so farFrom September of 2023 through Jan. 2, 2024, there have been 11.8 inches of snow for the season, which isn't a lot compared to the average snowfall in Denver.On average, the Mile High City has 20.6 inches of snow by this time, according to the National Weather Service. A Sunrise Police officer has been injured in Fort Lauderdale after a reported shooting. Fort Lauderdale Police responded to the area of 200 Street and Northwest 22nd Avenue, just after 2 p.m. The officer has been rushed to Broward Health Medical Center via ground transport with a gunshot wound to their leg. The condition of the officer is not yet known. It is unclear if a suspect has been taken into custody or what led to the shooting.
